It was an unusual day for the Sports Trader as I had a visit from my daughter Josephine and also I had a prospective sports trader come and watch my day's trading. I only traded on 7 races and had 1 loss.
I started with a small profitable trade in the 14:15 at Goodwood. My second race trade of the day was in the 14:30 at Bangor and it proved to be a very good trade. I kept a close eye on the short priced favourite, Beverly Hill Billy. He had been held up in mid division for much of the race and with three hurdles to go he came under pressure to close up on the leaders but soon started to weaken. At this point there were some very big backs put up on him at 3.00. I hesitated for a while as I didn't want to make a fool of myself when trying to show someone how to trade, but eventually I submitted my lay for £1350 @ 3.00. By the time my trade entered the exchange some of the this trade had already been taken, but I did get matched for £752. I then started to trade out of my liability with backs for £60 @ 4.00, £80 @ 4.30, £50 @ 5.00, £25 @ 7.10, £33 @ 8.00 and £1 @ 20.00, at which time I decided that the rest of my liability was safe so I ended up with a profit of £505.
As I was trying to show someone else how to trade I think I traded ultra cautious for the rest of the afternoon. I normally find that I trade a little more aggressively after good results but I wanted to demonstrate to a new trader how to be disciplined and therefore my next 4 trades all resulted in small profits. By now my trainee sports trader had left and I spent a while with Josephine and Jennifer after they came back from a shopping trip.
I had one more race trade in the 20:35 at Newmarket. This was my only losing trade on the day as I backed Parisian Dream for £130 @ 2.00 and was beaten by a short head in a photo finish to cost me £130.
My day had finished with a profit of £384.
