Another solid day for the Sports Trader. I traded on 9 horse races, 1 cricket match and 1 football match and had just 1 losing trade.
The cricket match trading was as detailed in yesterday's blog entry and I finished the test match between England and India with a profit of £118.
My horse racing got under way with 3 small winning trades. My fourth trade was my only losing trade. This was in the 17:10 at Galway where I backed Desert Abbey for £111 @ 1.81 when I thought the horse would go on and win but she hit the last hurdle and was headed soon after to cost me £111.
My next race trade resulted in a small profit. In the 19:30 at Perth I laid Commercial Express for £32 @ 15.00 to result in a profit of £32. Next came another small winning trade.
In the 20.30, also at Perth, I laid Lerida for £80 @ 17.50 when well back in the field and approaching the final furlong to give me a profit of £80. My last race trade resulted in another small gain.
My race trading had finished with a profit of £13.
I had my first trade in a football match for this new season tonight. I hadn't realised just how much I had missed trading the under 2.5 goals market in the summer break. The match I traded on involved my favourite team, Glasgow Rangers taking on FK Zeta in the Champions League qualifying round. Rangers had the same starting line-up as had beaten Chelsea 2 - 0 on Saturday. Rangers Captain, Barry Ferguson, set a new club record of 65 European appearances tonight. By the time the evening racing had finished I had missed the first half and the score was still 0 - 0.
The price offered on the under 2.5 goals was very low so I decided to just watch the match. In the 54th minute Rangers scored the first goal and as soon as the market was reformed I backed the under 2.5 goals for £500 @ 1.66 and £6 @ 1.70. I started laying off @ 1.59 for £100. A little later I backed the unders for another £94 @ 1.55 and £250 @ 1.45. I then laid off £250 @ 1.41 and £115 @ 1.33. I now had a liability of £385 on the overs and a potential profit of £320. I had put up a lay @ 1.30 for my full liability, which, if it had been taken would have left me with a potential profit of £200,( not bad for 18 minutes work), but along came the second goal in the 72nd minute. I decided against taking on more liability after the second goal, I think this was more to do with the fact that this was my first unders trading of the new season and that today is the last day of July so I didn't want to risk denting the month's profits too much. I sat on my liability and waited for the price to drift down to 1.63 and then I laid off with £84. From here I laid in £50 chunks at 1.59, 1.50, 1.45, 1.44, 1.38 and 1.44. I finished the game with a profit of £120.
My day had ended with a profit of £251.
This meant that my final result for July was a profit of £2264, which considering I have been without my Au-pair for much of the month and I had the best part of a week away, is not too bad.
There is another new blog recently started up by Andrew, which he calls SpudysBlog. Andrew, or Spudy, as most people know him, plays a lot of poker and is pretty successful at it but has now decided to diversify into horse racing and intends to make consistent profits from his £300 starting bank. I hope it works out well Spudy, Good Luck.
