A good days trading for the Sports Trader with no losing trades after trading on 8 UK horse races and 1 football match.

My day started with the 13:25 at Punchestown where I backed Ah Ya Boy Ya for £40 @ 1.88 to result in a Profit of £35.

Next was the 13:55 also at Punchestown and here I backed Narquois for £60 @ 1.50 before laying off @ 1.08 to produce a profit of £25. I followed this with 2 small but profitable trades.

In the 14:40 at Yarmouth I laid Al Rayanah for £100 @ 4.20 to result in a profit of £100.

The best result of my day came in the 14:50 at Wolverhampton where I laid What's for Tea for £142 @ 2.00 to give me another £142 profit. I followed this with 2 more small winning trades.

My horse race trading had produced a profit of £315.

In the evening I decided to trade on the Coventry v West Ham football match. Well I made a real mess as I tried out a new, and not well thought out, trading strategy. With the score sitting at 0 -0, I backed no more goals for £33 @ 2.50 whilst off-setting this with a lay of the draw for £33 @ 2.04. Soon after Coventry scored and I decided to back them for £100 @ 1.45 with the idea of laying off within a few minutes. Well West Ham scored and now I am in a real mess with losses on the no goals market and now mounting losses on the match result market.

I had been doing my normal trading on the under 2.5 goals market and had in-fact at this stage of the game got a potential profit of £150 on  under 2.5 goals with no liability on the overs. In goes the winner for West Ham and now not only have I got 2  losses but I have also lost my potential profit on the unders. But, not to worry there are still 2 of the three minutes of injury time left. Then someone sticks up £5555 @ 1.03 trying to lay West Ham, I wait until only 15 seconds are left on the clock and the West Ham goal keeper has the ball and take the whole amount and back West Ham for £5555 @ 1.03. I then put up a lay of West Ham for £5555 @ 1.01 and this results in a profit on the match result of £50 which covers my losses on the no goals market and leaves me with a £17 profit on the match. Next time I will stick to the under 2.5 goals market.

My day had finished with a profit of £332.

Monday 29th October 2007

The Sports Trader got the week off to a profitable start even after two bad results early on in the day. I traded on 9 UK horse races, 1 tennis match and 1 football match.

My first 2 trades both resulted in small profits and then came my 2 losing results. The first was in the 14:05 at Galway where I laid Rinroe for £6 @ 3.50 to result in a loss of £16.

The worst result of my day was in the 14:35 at Galway. I had put up an early lay on Royal Paradise at 12.00 and by the time I decided I should cancel £15 had been matched which resulted in me losing £165.

Fifteen minutes later, in the 14:50 at Leicester, I had the best result of my day as I backed New Guinea for £4 @ 2.40 which I laid off @ 2.03 and then with the horse in control of the race I backed a further £420 @ 1.77 to result in a profit of £274. I followed this with 4 more small but profitable trades.

My horse race trading had resulted in a profit of £99.

In the early evening I caught the final few games of the Mathieu v Ancic tennis match in Paris and just had 1 trade backing Ancic for £50 @ 1.10 to result in a £5 profit.

After this I watched the Cyrstal Palace v Watford football match and traded on the under 2.5 goals market. I started with a back of the unders for £290 @ 1.90, I then laid off £250 @ 1.77 and £40 @ 1.85  then had one further lay to green up my position for £25 @ 1.36. This resulted in a profit of £26. In the final few minutes of the match I backed the under 3.5 goals market for £180 @ 1.07, £44 @ 1.03 and £96 @ 1.02 to produce a profit of £16.

My day had finished with a profit of £145.

The Sports Trader finished the week off with some mediocre trading. But on the bright side I really enjoyed my little slot on the WUBT RonBot Radio Station and look forward to talking to John again.

Friday 26th October 2007 - I only traded on 8 UK horse races and 1 football match. I had 2 losing results on the day, 1 of which was just £6 but the other in the 16:40 at Fakenham I lost £260 by laying Lik Wood Power for £50 @ 6.20 when making a mistake after leading the race. It's unusual for a horse to lose the lead and then make a mistake and still get up to win so I stand by the trade, it's the type of thing that will happen from time to time. I did trade the under 2.5 goals market on the Eintract Frankfurt v Hannover 96 football match which helped to recover some of my earlier losses but the day still finished with a loss of £185.

Saturday 27th October 2007 - As mentioned earlier this was the day that I spoke to John on his radio show and I wish I had spent a few more minutes on the radio as in the first race of the day, the 13:10 at Aintree, I backed John Dillon for £364 @ 1.68 whilst leading and travelling well but just before he blundered and was soon headed, giving me little chance to trade out of the position. This cost me £358. I traded on 25 Uk horse races but still ended the day with a loss of £250.

Sunday 28th October 2007 - At last a decent day of trading to finish the week off. I traded 16 UK horse races and 3 football matches with just 1 losing trade all day. My football trading was particularly good with all three matches showing good results to leave me with a profit of £230 on the day.

Well this has been a difficult week for the Sports Trader and one where I have to report a small loss of £51 for the week. Next week will be better!

Thursday 25th October 2007

The Sports Trader had a good day with 11 UK horse races, 1 football match and 1 snooker match.

My day started off the same as yesterday with a losing trade. This was in the 14:30 at Brighton where I had laid Maxwil for £97 @ 1.57 to cost me £55. My next 3 trades all resulted in small profits.

In the 15:35 at Brighton I had my only other losing trade of the day when I laid Transcend for £75 @ 4.20 to cost me £184. I followed this with a small profitable trade.

Things got a whole lot better in the 15:55 at Ludlow where I had laid Sayago for £500 @ 2.00 before backing back £200 @ 3.25 and £40 @ 3.30. Later I partially greened up with a back for £30 @ 3.25. This left me with a profit of £231. My next 4 trades all resulted in small profits.

My race trading had finished with a profit of £17.

Later I traded the Tottenham v Getafe football match. I had several trades on the under 2.5 goals market which had got me into a position of a potential profit of £70 on the unders and £14 profit on the overs when the third goal was scored. I also backed the Getafe for the match result in the final few minutes for £400 @ 1.10 to result in a profit of £40. In the final 10 minutes I backed the under 3.5 goals for £80 @ 1.43 which I laid off soon after @ 1.28 to give me another £12 profit.

After the football I watched the Steve Davis V Stephen Hendry snooker match. I backed Hendry for £221 @ 1.60 and laid this off @ 1.21 to give me a profit of £85.

My day had finished with a profit of £173.

The Sports Trader had a day to forget after producing a loss after 15 consecutive winning days. I traded on 10 UK horse races and 1 football match.

My day got off to the bad start in the 13:40 at Lingfield as I had laid Malibu Girl for £28 @ 9.00 after making a very poor start to the race and left outpaced and in the rear of the field. She started to make headway with 2 furlongs to go but I still didn't see the need to trade out of my position. Finally she ran on well in the final furlong to win by nearly two lengths and to cost me £224. I followed this up with a small but profitable trade.

In the 15:00 at Bath I laid Dunn'o for £34 @ 6.00 to result in a profit of £34. I followed this with 4 more small winning trades.

My second and final losing trade came in the 18:20 at Kempton where I laid Blue Zenith for £83 @ 3.00. Again I called this wrong and it ended up costing me £167.

In the 19:50, also at Kempton, I laid Musical Script for £50 @ 2.90 to result in a £50 profit.

The last race trade of my day was in the 20:50 at Kempton where I backed Garafena for £24 @ 2.08 to result in a profit of £26.

My race trading had resulted in a loss of £267.

In the evening I traded on the Besiktas v Liverpool Champions League football match. I had started by backing the under 2.5 goals market for  £50 @ 2.35, with one goal already scored. I laid this off @ 2.22. Later I backed the unders again for £748 @ 1.69 and laid off £56 @ 1.67 and £500 @ 1.57. I laid the rest of my liability @ 1.60 and this left me with a potential profit of £85 on the unders. I then partially greened up with a lay of £25 @ 1.44. With a couple more goals being scored I finished the game with a profit of £25. In the final minutes of the game I backed Besiktas to win for £175 @ 1.06 and a further £64 @ 1.05 to give me a profit of £14.

My day had finished with a disappointing loss of £229.

The Sports Trader had an unproductive day after trading on 12 horse races and 1 football match.

My day started with a small but profitable trade. Then I had the first of 3 losing trades in the 14:20 at Lingfield. I had backed Foreland Sands for £40 @ 2.50 when well clear of the field and coming round the final bend. He kept in front well into the final furlong but was eventually caught approaching the finishing line to cost me £40. I followed this with another small winning trade.

My best result of the day came next in the 15:10 at Exeter where I laid Thunder Child for £35 @ 30.00 and a further £13 @ 40.00 to result in a profit of £48. My next 3 race trades all resulted in small profits.

In the 16:05 at Fairyhouse I laid Stunt Man for £25 @ 10.00 before backing back £4 @ 12.00 to result in a profit of £21.

My second loss came in the 16:40 at Exeter where I backed Storm Applause for £140 @ 2.90 before laying off @ 2.65. Next I backed again for £100 @ 2.75 and began laying off but only managed to lay off £43, so I ended the race with a loss of £57. My next trade resulted in a small profit.

My final loss of the day came in the 17:05 at Fairyhouse where I laid Keelaghan for £25 @ 1.90 to lose me £22. I finished my race trading with a small profitable trade.

My race trading had resulted in a loss of £17.

I had decided to watch the Rangers v Barcelona football match in the evening. I had a few small trades on the under 2.5 goals market which resulted in a profit of £23.

My day had therefore ended with a small profit of just £6.

Monday 22nd October 2007

A good start to the week for the Sports Trader with 10 horse races and 1 football match traded and just 1 losing trade.

I started my day with 2 small but profitable trades. Just to refresh peoples memory I call any trade resulting in a profit or loss of £10 or less as a small trade. My next trade was the best of the day and came in the 15:50 at Plumpton where I laid Ballyhoo for £209 @ 2.00 before backing back £54 @ 5.00 and £40 @ 6.00. Later I laid a further £31 @ 5.00 to result in a profit of £146. I followed this with 2 more small winning trades.

In the 15:30 at Wolverhampton I laid Cap St.Jean for £66 @ 3.50 before backing back £22 @ 4.20 and £19 @ 6.07 to result in a profit of £25.

The only losing trade of my day came next in the 15:40 at Pontefract where I had laid Siberian Tiger for £31 @ 2.00 to lose £31. My next 2 trades both resulted in small profits.

My last race trade of the day was in the 17:20 at Plumpton where I backed Ocean du Moulin for £519 @ 1.05 when well clear in the final furlong to result in a profit of £26.

My race trading had resulted in a profit of £182.

In the evening I decided to trade the Newcastle v Spurs football match. I thought the odds on offer for under 2.5 goals were very generous so I backed the unders for £100 @ 2.22 before kick off and then for a further £38 @ 2.09 just after the kick off. I started laying off about 6 minutes into the game with lays at 1.98 for £38, 1.88 for £25, 1.82 for £25, 1.76 for £25 and finally 1.58 for £25. I was now in a position of no liability on the overs but a potential profit of £50 on the unders. I then put a lay up at 1.35 for £37 which would have given me an all green of £37, but alas a goal was scored before my trade was matched on the Daq. I decided to wait for the price to drop to see if I could trade out with a reasonable profit but the goals kept coming so I ended the match with no profit or loss from this trade. I did however back the correct score of 3 -1 for £98 @ 1.91 in the 80th minute which I laid off 1 minute later @ 1.76. Later I backed the same correct score for £18 @ 1.61 and laid this off @ 1.50 before a final back @ 1.40 for £28  which was laid off @ 1.20 to leave me with a profit of £22.

My day had finished with a profit of £204.

Welcome back from the Sports Trader to all readers. The past few weeks have been a little difficult to say the least and because of these problems I have been unable to post my daily account of trading. I can not go into too much detail about my problems but I feel I should let you know some of what has been going on.

It is now just over a year since my wife left me and our three children to fend for ourselves. We have got on surprisingly well although I have had to develop my culinary skills some what. My days are necessarily quite a strict regime to enable me to get the children up at around 7:00 then fed washed and dressed and ready for school and play school. The twins are only at play school from
9:15 to 11:45 so by the time I have got back home and done a few jobs it is time to pick them up again. My Au-pair starts at 2:00 so from then on I can concentrate on my trading. I start to prepare the evening meal at 5:00 so I have to stop trading from then until I have got the children in bed @ 7:00 for the twins and 8:00 for Zoe. I would then normally recommence trading in the evening. At weekends my wife is suppose to take the children which gives me time to concentrate on full trading days.

Well I think my wife has had the children just 1 whole weekend in the last 6 which plays havoc with my routine and also means that I can not get a much needed lye in bed at the weekends. But worse than this during the first week of October I was happily trading away on the Thursday night Premier League snooker tournament when I started to feel unwell. It started as a touch of indigestion, then I felt my heart racing and I could not stop shaking. Soon after I had serious pains in my chest and all down my left arm.  I suspected the worst and gave my son Oliver a call to see if he could come round to look after the children whilst I went to see a Doctor. Oliver arrived and I had spoken to the NHS 24 service. I was told that I could not drive so they would send someone to check me out. Soon after an ambulance turned up, much to my embarrassment. They checked me over and I had very high blood pressure along with other classic symptoms of a heart attack. I was taken to hospital and had all the tests but thankfully my heart was ok. I still do not know what was wrong. I spent a day in hospital and then went back the following day for more tests. It is likely that I had some sort of stress disorder but my heart is as fit as possible.

A few days after getting home I then had some sort of viral infection which again made me miss trading, as many of you will know, if you are not 100% fit it is a waste of time trying to trade as your concentration levels are just not good enough. This infection lasted 7 days but I am now back fighting fit and on a mission to stay healthy and continue to make this Sports Trading pay.

Thanks for all the emails and comments that I have received over the past few weeks, it is always so pleasant to hear from fellow traders. I do realise that a blog should be updated regularly and I must admit it had crossed my mind to stop this blog completely as it is quite time consuming but for now I do intend to keep going.

Week Ending 7th October 2007 - Unsurprisingly this turned out to be a losing week. My activity was much reduced due to the problems detailed earlier and I made a big mistake on the Saturday which cost me £1733, although later that night I made £1413 on the Sri Lanka v England 3rd ODI. My week finished with a loss of £348.

Week Ending 14th October 2007 - This was another shortened week due to my illness but I did manage to turn in a profit of £766 after trading on 60 events with just 3 losing trades.

Week Ending 21st October 2007 - This was half term week for the children and we decided to have a couple of day trips as life has not been much fun for them over the past few weeks. So after yet another short week I managed to finish up with a profit of £889.

I have been trading a lot more conservatively over the past couple of weeks but still showing reasonable results, so I will continue this way for a while and see how things work out.

Following on from my last post this will be a summary of the last weeks trading.  I hope to get back to daily updates after this.

Monday 24th Sept. - A great start to this week after trading on 8 horse races, 1 cricket match and 1 football match with just 1 losing trade. My best trade for a while came in the 16:10 at Hamilton where I backed Elopement for £593 @ 5.10 before laying off £600 @ 3.25 which left me with a profit of £1080 on the race. My day finished with a profit of £1178.

Tuesday 25th Sept. - A good performance with 5 horse races and 2 football matches traded and with no losing trades which left me with a profit of £208 for the day.

Wednesday 26th Sept. - Not the best of days after trading on 12 horse races but I did have 3 losing races and this left me with a profit of £25 for the day.

Thursday 27th Sept. - A lot better day today with 10 horse races, 1 snooker match and 1 football match traded and with no losing trades and a profit on the day of £260.

Friday 28th Sept. - This was a poor day of trading. I traded on 12 horse races and 1 rugby match but had 3 losing trades and finished the day with a loss of £198.

Saturday 29th Sept. - Another difficult day after trading on 17 horse races and 1 rugby match I finished with a loss of £7.

Sunday 30th Sept. - This was looking to be another losing day but I managed to turn it around with a good trade on the South Africa v America rugby match. I had traded on 8 horse races earlier and finished the day with a profit of £89.

The result for the week has been good which is surprising as I have had a very busy and difficult time, but I am pleased with the £1556 profit.

Yet another month has gone by in a flash, it has been a good one for me on the trading front and has produced a profit of £5803.

In an attempt to get my blog back on track I will just give a summary of my main trades since the last update.

Friday 21st Sept. - A decent solid day of trading where I traded on 5 horse races, 1 football match and 1 Rugby match with no losing trades and a profit of £159.

Saturday 22nd Sept. - A busy day but not a great result after trading on 8 horse races,  1 cricket match and 3 football matches with just one losing trade which resulted in a profit of the day of £66.

Sunday 23rd Sept. -  Another busy day and a slightly better result after trading on 17 horse races and 2 football matches with just 1 loss which resulted in a profit of £90 for the day.

This has been a very busy week both trading and personally. I ended the week with a profit of £1184.
