Dr. Sports Trader had other priorities again today but the end of the pox is in sight. Thanks again for all the well wishes that we have received. I did manage to snatch a few minutes away from my patients to trade in just seven races.
All trades today turned a profit. My first five trades were all small and resulted in a total profit of £15. My best trade was in the 14:10 at Southwell. There had been either a new player or a player with a new strategy on Betdaq today. This player was putting up catch bets at odds of ten times the going rate. I have been caught by them before, but it is a part of trading and we are all looking for ways to make money. He/she had been very successful earlier when odds of 36 were laid about a 3.5 chance for £100.
In this 14:10 race there was a bet put up for £400 at 38.0 on the favourite Bienheureux. I kept an eye on the bet and on the race. With the pack coming into the Southwell straight, Bienheureux was starting to make ground on the leaders. At around one and a half furlongs out Bienheureux looked to be only just holding his own and I decided to strike and hit the submit button. I got matched for £389 and had a few seconds of worry before, what I thought I had seen happening to the horse, was actually happening. He never did gain on the leaders and eventually came in 3rd at a distance of 3 lengths. I had just won £388. To be honest the bet was never in any serious doubt but this was a huge liability to me and for that reason all sorts of things start going through my mind.
I only traded in one more race which left a further small profit. So I had finished my race day with a total profit of £407.
I had intended to trade on the Copa del Rey match in Spain between Real Betis and Real Madrid but for several reasons missed the start and decided I would wait for a goal to be scored before I got involved. A goal never came and I wasn't even tempted into the correct score market. So my day was over. I hope you all made loads on the unders market tonight.
As mentioned in a comment on yesterday's post I have now forgiven Walter Smith for taking the Rangers Manager position. It appears that if the SFA had offered to extend his contract to the same 3 years that Rangers had offered he would have stayed with the Scotland team. I think the SFA have made a huge blunder here. There is no better man in Football to motivate a Scottish team.
Well done Ray for sticking it to the trap betting s*um, mebbe the only thing lower is a forum ramper, go easy with them huge liabilites tho. all the best.

Hi Ray,
I discovered your blog last weekend, when you posted a reply to a thread on the Betfair forum. Since then, I've read your dairy entries on a daily basis (and even checked out some of the history !). Your ability to juggle family commitments and trading is quite astonishing - I've got a fair few family commitments myself, so I know how difficult it is to concentrate on betting when there always seems to be something more important to attend to. Trading for a living in such circumstances, is something I simply wouldn't have the nerve to do - so you have my utmost respect.
One question: how do you manage to successfully bet in-running without 'live' pictures ? I've tried it once or twice myself, but always feel that I'm at a huge disadvantage. Whatever I see, someone else has seen and acted on seconds earlier. I therefore either mis bets or get very poor odds. How do you overcome this (particularly as a number of your bets seem to be struck just yards from the post) ?

Surely, that bet on Bienheureux was gambling, not trading. As sure as night follows day, you'll get caught by one of these before long.
Hope you don't!

Betdaq should bar the trap better. Nothing destroys in running betting quicker than these sort of low lying parasites.

Ray,
Impressive you surely proved that you have skills. To spot an opening like that, formulate a strategy and follow it through perfectly. The emotions only kicked it for a few brief seconds. Will be interesting to see whether a similar in running betting pattern will happen today or whether they got burnt badly enough to reformulate there plan. Good work.

Hi Ray
As an Everton fan I cannot endorse your comments on Walter Smith - he was one of the worst, most negative managers we have ever had. It is Rangers loss and Scotlands gain in my opinion - he only looked good with Scotland because Bertie Vogts was the pits. Good luck today

Prekladatel,
Markets are made by many types of people with many methods, some we will like and some we won't. We just have to be very wary of some of these methods. Good Luck

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your comments. I think I have just persevered over a long period of time and with that your experience grows. I do have a very fast computer and broadband connection which all helps but the rest can only be down to working out different scenarios in your mind and being ready if one of these events takes place. Good Luck.

Hi Tony,
The result was pretty much a for gone conclusion when I placed the trade, but I suppose any trade has an element of risk therefore is a gamble. I try to ensure the odds are heavily in my favour befoore I take a trade.

Humble, The Gambler, Brian,
Thanks for your comments. The best way to stop this type of trade is for them not to get matched where they would win and to make sure they are, matched when they will lose. Easier said than done but I will do my bit. Good Luck to you all.

Mick,
I know you have reason to see Walter in a different light as he was not too impressive at Everton. If I remember correctly he took several of the Rangers players down to Everton with him. These where players from the side that lost the 10 in a row league titles challenge. I was not too happy with Walter or Brian Laudrup in their final season at Rangers, both announced they where leaving quite early on in the season and I think that contributed to the decline in standard of play that last season. But Walter's record for Scotland is very good, who would have thought that Scotland would beat the World cup finalists, France. I agree Berti was a complete disaster. Good Luck with your trading today.
