It's been a fairly slow day for the Sports Trader with just 7 races traded of which 5 were profitable. I also had a small trade in tonight's live football match.
My first race traded was the 13:30 at Hexham where I started with a lay of Cromwell Court for £139 @ 2.75 and then backed back @ 2.70. I also backed him for £53 @ 2.45 and laid another £33 @ 1.52 and then on the run in backed him for £33 @ 1.52 to leave a profit on the race of £26.
Next I had two small trades one profitable and won a loser. My next race was my best by far. It was the 14:00 at Hexham where I backed the odds on favourite, Dom d'Orgeval, for £785 @ 1.30 about 100 yds from the finish, which considering the SP was 1.40 with 3 miles and 1 furlong to travel, I thought were brilliant odds. It is at times like this that I disagree with all the forum regulars that slag off Derek 'Thomo' Thompson for his commentaries. Thomo, in his efforts to make even the most mundane race sound exciting, has a great knack of making listeners and viewers think that the horse in front is about to be caught or even beaten by another and it is at times like this that you can, as I did today, get odds far better than should be on offer at such a stage in a race. Anyway thank you Thomo for a £236 profit on the race.
My next race was the 14:20 at Wolverhampton where I backed Stanerra's Story for £19 @ 1.86 and laid off @ 1.20 for a profit of £12. In the 16:30 at Hexham I had a small back on Bedlam Boy for £9 @ 1.80 before laying off @ 1.63. I later backed him again for £123 @ 1.68 and laid off @ 1.60 to leave me with a profit of £10.
My last race of the day was the 16:30 at Hexham where I started with a back on Brook No Argument for £26 @ 1.14 and then backed the eventual winner, General Ledger for £65 @ 1.10 and again for £18 @ 1.05 to leave me with my biggest loss on the day of £18.
I had finished my racing day with a profit of £262.
In the live football match tonight between Scunthorpe and Bristol City I took things very steady as I did expect quite a few goals. I backed the under 2.5 goal market for £35 @ 1.77 soon after the kick off and laid off @ 1.59. After the only goal of the match I backed the unders for a further £40 @ 1.67 and laid off @ 1.54 to leave me a profit of £11 on the match.
That is all I traded but I still made a respectable profit for the day of £273.
